How to use the resources
- Choose an interest. Start with a question, object, place or activity that catches someone’s attention.
- Choose your depth. Try one activity or work through a longer project. Adjust the pace, reading and adult support.
- Choose how to respond. A conversation, model, drawing, photograph or written piece can all help someone explain what they’ve noticed.
Adults can explore alongside the learner. “I don’t know yet — let’s find out” is a useful answer. Pause, change direction or revisit an idea whenever it helps.
Try it now: a tiny imaginary shop
Draw three imaginary products, give them names and prices, and design a label for each. What could someone buy with £10? What information would a customer need?
Add a twist that fits an interest: an animal shop, a motorbike workshop or a game’s market stall. The maths and writing have a reason to be there.
Follow curiosity sideways
A plant project can begin with observing and measuring leaves, then move into its history or the way it grows. The Botanical Library will offer the background research; The Forager’s Guide will focus on practical outdoor skills.
