Follow an interest. Let the subjects join up.
Flexible resources to help adults support curious learners, without recreating school at the kitchen table. Start with a real question and make room for observing, experimenting, researching and thinking things through.

A small idea to try now
Sketch a tiny imaginary forage shop. Name three products, design their labels and work out what a customer could buy with £10. What would you need to research before turning an idea into a real animal product?

Forage & Botanicals
Understand the plant, not just its name.
Practical guides for adults who want to look more closely at plants, forage and botanical ingredients. Built on the knowledge and research behind Guinea Gourmet Treats.
- Identification, harvesting, drying and processing.
- Plant history, traditional uses, botanical science and nutritional information.
- Suitability for different animals where relevant, and the thinking behind forage combinations.
The aim is useful detail, with sources and clear distinctions between traditional uses, research findings and what remains uncertain.
A small idea to try now
Choose a plant you already recognise and make an observation page: sketch its leaves, note where it grows and record three questions to research. Compare more than one reliable reference. Observation is a starting point, not a reason to assume a plant is suitable to eat or feed.

One curiosity. Two ways to explore.
A plant doesn’t belong to just one subject. Research into hazel or linden might become a detailed botanical reference for an adult, or a learning project that connects observation, biology, history, geography, writing and maths.
Animals, nature and science run through both branches. The depth and approach change with the reader; the curiosity is shared.

Sideways & Unboxed brings together the plant research, animal nutrition, welfare and enrichment behind Guinea Gourmet Treats with practical experience of home education.
It grew from real questions: what goes into a forage blend, how a plant grows, how a small business works, and what happens when you look a little closer. The resources turn that knowledge into something other people can use, in their own way.
