Meet Tara. The experience behind GGT.

I’m Tara, the person behind Guinea Gourmet Treats. GGT grew out of around a decade running Guinea Garden Sanctuary: caring for animals, getting to know their behaviour and helping guinea pigs with bonding and socialisation.

That practical experience is the starting point for everything I do here. Food is part of an animal’s daily life, alongside companionship, a suitable environment and opportunities to explore.

From sanctuary life to thoughtful forage

Working with rescue animals meant paying attention to individuals. The same approach carries into GGT: looking at the species, the ingredients and the animal’s particular needs, rather than assuming one blend is right for everyone.

My knowledge comes from hands-on welfare and practical care, alongside courses, scientific literature and continuing research. There is always more to learn, and I want customers to feel comfortable asking why an ingredient has been chosen.

What I look for in a blend

  • Species-appropriate choices. Ingredients and feeding guidance matter. Suitability varies by product.
  • Botanical variety. Different plants bring different textures, aromas and nutritional compositions.
  • Opportunities to forage. I think about how a suitable product can become part of an animal’s enrichment routine.
  • Individual needs. Age, preferences, exclusions and existing feeding advice can all affect what you choose.
  • Clear explanations. I aim to explain the choices behind the range without promising that a forage will cure a condition.

Behaviour, bonding and trust

Guinea-pig behaviour, bonding and socialisation were a particular focus of my sanctuary work. Watching animals closely—how they approach, explore and interact—has shaped the way I think about practical care.

Foraging ideas and suitable hand-fed treats can be part of the time you spend getting to know an animal. They sit within a wider picture of care; a product alone cannot solve a behavioural or health problem.

A small business with rescue at its heart

GGT remains personal and independent. Purchases help support Guinea Garden Sanctuary and other rescue projects, and the rescue hub brings together ways to give a little extra and support animals in need.
