Let your learner take charge of part of Halloween: choose an idea, research what it needs, plan a budget, make decisions and adapt when plans change. Try one mission for an afternoon or combine several into a longer project.

Choose your missions

• Plan a party, a treat station or the event’s music and timings.
• Create a spooky bake, decorations or a costume.
• Invent and test a game, or transform a room or den.

What’s included

• A detailed adult guide with prompts, teaching explanations and a support ladder for helping without taking over.
• Maths explanations and worked examples, science and design ideas, and Halloween history and folklore.
• Adaptations, sibling-learning ideas, common problems, learning observations and suggestions for recording evidence.
• A suggested home-education week and optional learner pages for planning, budgeting, designing, baking, making games, handling changes and reflecting.

Where the learning can lead

Practise money, measurement, time, purposeful reading and writing, research and design. Follow related questions about pumpkins, bats, spiders, materials or changing traditions using the adult guide’s background information and prompts.

Record it your way

Use the learner sheets, type, keep a notebook, work on a whiteboard, talk through ideas or collect photographs. Speech-to-text and a mixture of methods are welcome. There is no requirement to complete every page.

Print only what you need, work digitally or use the adult guide without the recording sheets. The decisions, questions and changes along the way are part of the learning.
