You're In Charge of Halloween | Child-Led Halloween Home Education Project Pack

£4.99

Hand over Halloween — and see just how much learning appears. 🎃🌿

You're In Charge of Halloween is a detailed Learning Sideways home-education project that turns Halloween planning into real-life maths, English, science, design, research, problem-solving and independence.

Instead of giving children a collection of Halloween worksheets and crafts to complete, this pack gives them something much more meaningful:

Responsibility.

They choose what they want their Halloween to look like, decide which parts they want to take charge of, research what they'll need, work with a budget, design and make things, solve problems when plans change — and ultimately help make their Halloween happen.

🎃 Choose Your Halloween Missions

Learners can take on as many or as few missions as they like, including:

  • 🎉 Plan a Halloween party
  • 🧁 Create a spooky bake
  • ✂️ Design and make Halloween decorations
  • 🧛 Create a costume
  • 🎲 Invent and test a Halloween game
  • 🍬 Plan a treat station
  • 🏚️ Transform a room, den or other space
  • 🎵 Create the music, timings and overall Halloween experience

One mission could fill an afternoon. Several can become a ready-made week of home education, or you can dip into the pack throughout October.

🌱 Real learning hiding inside Halloween

Depending on the route your learner chooses, they could naturally explore:

Maths — budgeting, money, addition, multiplication, division, estimation, percentages, quantities, unit pricing, measurement, scale and time.

English — purposeful writing, reading instructions, research, rules, invitations, explanations and communication.

Science — baking chemistry, light and shadows, materials, pumpkins, bats, spiders, ecosystems and more.

Design & Technology — designing, prototyping, choosing materials, strengthening structures and solving construction problems.

Computing & Digital Literacy — online research, comparing products, digital planning, playlists, spreadsheets and evaluating information.

Alongside executive functioning, independence, flexibility, decision-making, communication, creativity and problem-solving.

🐇 And then there are the rabbit holes...

A pumpkin can become plant biology, decomposition and food waste.

A bat can lead to mammals, nocturnal adaptations and echolocation.

A spider can become arachnids, silk, predators and food webs.

A costume can lead to textiles, sustainability and design.

Halloween itself can lead into Samhain, All Hallows' Eve, migration, folklore and how traditions change over time.

The detailed adult guide provides the background information, questions and prompts you need to follow these directions without having to research and plan the lesson first yourself.

👩‍🏫 A detailed adult guide — not just worksheets

The 34-page pack includes extensive support for the adult facilitating the project, including:

Adult prompts and questions • Teaching explanations • A support ladder for helping without taking over • Maths explanations and worked examples • Science and DT knowledge • Halloween history and folklore • Neurodivergence-aware adaptations • Common problems and how to navigate them • Rabbit-hole ideas • Evidence suggestions • Learning observations • Sibling-learning ideas • A suggested Halloween home-ed week.

It also includes a real example of how the project developed during home education with Taylor and Ty, including the bits that didn't go perfectly — because real learning rarely does.

🧠 Record it YOUR way

The included learner sheets are completely optional.

Your learner can:

💻 Type on a computer or tablet
✏️ Write on the sheets
📓 Use their own notebook
🖊️ Work on a whiteboard
🗣️ Talk their ideas through
🎙️ Use speech-to-text or transcription
📸 Use photographs and screenshots
🔀 Mix different methods or change halfway through

If handwriting isn't the skill we're trying to develop, handwriting doesn't need to become the barrier.

Adapt the route without lowering the thinking.

📄 What's included?

One 34-page digital download containing the complete adult guide and optional learner pack, including planning, budgeting, craft design, baking, costume design, game creation, treat maths, room transformation, curveballs, event planning, reflection and rabbit-hole pages.

Print the pages you need, work digitally, or don't use the learner sheets at all.

There is no requirement to complete the whole pack.

Do one mission. Spend a week on it. Follow one enormous rabbit hole. Build your whole October around it.

🌿 Learning Sideways

Real ideas. Real problems. Real learning.

Because the finished Halloween isn't the assessment.

The decisions, questions, calculations, changes, mistakes, solutions and independence along the way are where the learning happens.
