You're In Charge of Halloween is a detailed Learning Sideways home-education project that turns Halloween planning into real-life maths, English, science, design, research, problem-solving and independence.
Instead of giving children a collection of Halloween worksheets and crafts to complete, this pack gives them something much more meaningful:
Responsibility.
They choose what they want their Halloween to look like, decide which parts they want to take charge of, research what they'll need, work with a budget, design and make things, solve problems when plans change — and ultimately help make their Halloween happen.

Learners can take on as many or as few missions as they like, including:

One mission could fill an afternoon. Several can become a ready-made week of home education, or you can dip into the pack throughout October.
🌱 Real learning hiding inside Halloween
Depending on the route your learner chooses, they could naturally explore:
Maths — budgeting, money, addition, multiplication, division, estimation, percentages, quantities, unit pricing, measurement, scale and time.
English — purposeful writing, reading instructions, research, rules, invitations, explanations and communication.
Science — baking chemistry, light and shadows, materials, pumpkins, bats, spiders, ecosystems and more.
Design & Technology — designing, prototyping, choosing materials, strengthening structures and solving construction problems.
Computing & Digital Literacy — online research, comparing products, digital planning, playlists, spreadsheets and evaluating information.
Alongside executive functioning, independence, flexibility, decision-making, communication, creativity and problem-solving.
🐇 And then there are the rabbit holes...
A pumpkin can become plant biology, decomposition and food waste.
A bat can lead to mammals, nocturnal adaptations and echolocation.
A spider can become arachnids, silk, predators and food webs.
A costume can lead to textiles, sustainability and design.
Halloween itself can lead into Samhain, All Hallows' Eve, migration, folklore and how traditions change over time.
The detailed adult guide provides the background information, questions and prompts you need to follow these directions without having to research and plan the lesson first yourself.

Print the pages you need, work digitally, or don't use the learner sheets at all.
There is no requirement to complete the whole pack.
