🌍 OUR FRONT DRIVE HAS BECOME AN INTERNATIONAL MOTH REFUELLING STATION. 🥹

We first spotted hummingbird hawk-moths here last year, hovering over the red valerian as though they’d travelled all that way with our address programmed in.

Now they’re visiting again!

These remarkable migrating moths reach the UK from southern Europe and North Africa. Their wings move so quickly that they hum as they hover, sipping from each flower through an incredibly long proboscis.

I find them completely mesmerising. If one is feeding when I arrive home, I’ll stand outside and wait rather than disturb it. 😂

I can’t know whether they’re the same moths, their offspring or entirely new travellers following the flowers—but it feels incredibly special that our little front drive has become part of their enormous journey.

The red valerian is definitely staying. The moth café appears to be doing excellent business. 🌸
