Foraging, Freebies, and a Few Dance Breaks

Published on 3 August 2025 at 13:43

Some days at GGT feel like a calm rhythm. Other days? They’re a mix of muddy boots, music, and being pulled in ten different directions – and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Today started with something special: Krista’s order for soft dry bamboo for her chinchilla, Seth. Instead of just pulling stock from the shelves, I took the kids out foraging to hand-pick the freshest bamboo. It’s my favourite part of this work – knowing where every leaf comes from and getting the kids involved. Muddy boots, big grins, and a little family adventure hidden in your parcel.

Krista didn’t stop there, either. She donated an item to each of the three rescues we support – and that kind of generosity deserves a thank you. I popped in an extra Clean & Circulate forage and sent her a NEW30 discount code for her next order. Supporting rescues isn’t just about the animals; it builds the community we’re lucky to be part of.

Personal Touches That Make It Different

Later in the day, I packed an order for Hannah’s four piggies – Melvin, Pip, Cindy, and Shelly. Their order was Radiant Coat Mix, Dandelion Meadow, and Raspberry Leaf, but because I knew it was for four hungry mouths, I added two freebies: Rustling Renewal and Cleanse & Soothe, plus a handwritten note wishing them happy munching.

That’s why I love knowing who I’m packing for – it turns a box of forage into something personal. It’s not just “an order”; it’s their order.

The Chaos in Between

All of this happens with life whirling around me. Music blasting (Salt-N-Pepa, Britney, Tyga & Doja Cat – today was eclectic), kids running in and out, and Jay popping up mid-packing. Work-from-home chaos is real. Sometimes it’s a polite moan; other times it’s a dance break while sealing up boxes.

Music’s my mood lifeline – playful when I need energy, powerful when I’m flat, soft when I’m ready to slow down. It’s my co-worker at this point, setting the pace for packing and foraging alike.

New Faces – Even Snails!

One of my favourite surprises recently has been discovering just how many animals enjoy these forages – not just guinea pigs and rabbits, but even Giant African Land Snails. A customer sent photos of their snails tucking into willow alongside their piggies, and it blew my mind. That’s why GALS now feature in our feeding guides – if they can enjoy it safely, I want them included too.

Winding Down (Sort Of)

By evening, I’d sent out two parcels, prepped tomorrow’s forage, and hit the bare minimum on work… before sitting out front with a drink while Taylor played with her friend. It’s easy to feel like I should keep going, but some days slowing down is exactly what’s needed.

It’s not polished or perfect – but that’s the heart of GGT. Real people, real pets, real care.

Do your pets have favourite forages? Or are they new to natural treats?
Tell me about them in the comments – I’d love to know who we’re packing for next.
