Forage Bar with Mint and Peas

ยฃ2.59

The Hay Bar with Mint & Peas is a fibre-dense enrichment treat designed to encourage natural foraging, chewing, and healthy dental wear across a wide range of animals.

Made using Sweet Green Hay, grown and cut in the traditional way, the grass is field-dried before being gently finished in a moisture-controlled barn using a heat-recycling process. This careful method helps retain colour, aroma, and essential nutrients — creating a bar that smells fresh, engages the senses, and promotes calm, instinctive grazing rather than rapid consumption.

The addition of mint supports digestion and appetite, while flaked peas add texture and mild plant protein for enrichment and variety. This is a complementary feed and should always support — never replace — a hay-led, species-appropriate diet.

๐ŸŒฟ Ingredient Benefits (and who benefits most)

๐ŸŒฑ Sweet Green Hay (Dried Grass)

High in insoluble fibre for gut motility

Supports continuous chewing and dental wear

Encourages natural, calming foraging behaviour

Most beneficial for:

๐Ÿฐ Rabbits & Guinea Pigs, whose digestive systems rely on constant fibre intake to prevent gut stasis and dental overgrowth.

๐ŸŒฟ Mint

Gently soothes the digestive system

Can help stimulate appetite

Fresh aroma encourages engagement with food

Most beneficial for:

๐Ÿน Guinea pigs, especially fussy eaters or those recovering appetite after stress.

๐Ÿญ Rats & mice, where scent-based enrichment is highly stimulating.

๐ŸŒพ Flaked Peas

Provide plant-based protein and energy

Add crunch and novelty for enrichment

Support active species when fed in moderation

Most beneficial for:

๐Ÿญ Rats & mice, who have slightly higher protein needs than strict herbivores.

๐Ÿน Hamsters & gerbils, supporting energy and natural foraging behaviours.

(Used sparingly for species prone to sugar sensitivity.)

๐Ÿพ Feeding Guidance (by species)

๐Ÿน Guinea Pigs

1 small segment, 2–3 times per week

Break and place on hay to encourage grazing

Avoid daily feeding due to pea content

๐Ÿง  Guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C — this product supports enrichment and chewing but should be paired with vitamin-C-rich forage such as rosehip or cleavers.

๐Ÿฐ Rabbits

1–2 small segments, 2–3 times per week

Ideal for dental wear and boredom relief

Not a daily feed

๐Ÿญ Rats

½–1 segment per rat, 2–3 times weekly

Excellent for gnawing, enrichment, and protein variety

Can be hidden or hand-fed for bonding

๐Ÿ Mice

Thumbnail-sized piece, 2–3 times weekly

Break into smaller fragments to prevent hoarding

๐Ÿน Hamsters & ๐Ÿน Gerbils

Small broken piece, 2 times per week

Perfect for pouching, shredding, and digging behaviour

Scatter-feed rather than bowl-feed

๐Ÿฟ๏ธ Degus & ๐Ÿน Chinchillas

Very small piece, once weekly only

Pea content means strict moderation

Hay and leafy forage must remain the main diet

๐Ÿข Tortoises

Tiny pinch of the hay portion only, once weekly

Avoid peas entirely

Use as texture enrichment, not nutrition

๐Ÿฆœ Parakeets

Not suitable as a food item

Can be offered occasionally as a chewable enrichment item only, under supervision

Remove once interest fades

Always ensure unlimited hay, clean water, and a balanced, species-appropriate diet are available. Remove uneaten portions after 12 hours.
