Behind the Scenes at GGT: This Week’s Forage & Enrichment Creations

Published on 28 July 2025 at 19:27

I feel like every week at GGT, I’m up to my elbows in leaves, sticks, and flowers – and I wouldn’t have it any other way. This week has been one of my favourites to put together so far, so I thought I’d share a proper behind-the-scenes look at what’s been going on and what’s new in the shop.

The New Layered Enrichment Boxes

These boxes have been such a labour of love. I wanted to create something that wasn’t just “a few toys and sticks chucked in” – but a proper layered experience where your pets get to dig, sniff, forage, chew, and basically go wild doing what they’re built to do.

This batch is packed to the brim with:

  • Hazel sticks with leaves

  • Linden leaves and foraging grasses

  • Raspberry, ash, linden and bamboo sticks (including rope-covered bamboo for extra texture)

  • A pinecone (rabbits only – guinea pigs get an alternative chew)

  • Donut hay treat (random flavour, because surprises are fun)

  • Large toy ball and small willow ball

  • Grass wreath, carrot hay cube, rope veggie chew, and rope jingle ball (random colour)

  • And finally… a sprinkle of mixed edible flowers over the top to finish it off beautifully.

When I was building these, I layered them so pets have to work their way through – it’s not just about chewing, it’s about exploring and using their senses.

How to Use Them

I get asked this a lot, so here’s the gist:

  • Rabbits & guinea pigs: Pop the whole tray in their run or scatter through fresh hay. One box is perfect for a pair of rabbits or 3–4 guinea pigs and will last 1–2 days of proper foraging.

  • Chinchillas, degus, hamsters, rats, mice: Use smaller items from the box individually and rotate them – stops boredom and makes it last longer.

  • Tortoises & green iguanas: Scatter leaves and flowers in their enclosure, remove after 24 hours.

  • Parakeets & chickens: Hang the chews or scatter leaves/flowers for ground foraging.

It’s about making it safe, stimulating, and fun – no matter who you’re buying for.

Bundle of the Week – Forage Favourites Mega Mix

Every week I put together a special forage bundle – it’s basically my way of helping you top up your shelves (and theirs) without breaking the bank. This week’s mix is packed with big leafy favourites and smaller blends that cover digestion, skin, coat, and enrichment all in one go.

Here’s what’s inside this week’s bundle:

Large Forages

  • Linden Leaf

  • Cleanse & Soothe

  • Willow Leaves

  • Silver Birch

  • Dandelion Delight

Smaller Forages

  • Rustling Renewal

  • Raspberry Leaf

  • Apple & Woodland

  • Fresh Leaf Vital

All together, it’s worth over £20 but I’ve bundled it up for £16.55 – because I know how quickly forage stocks vanish in a busy household of hay monsters.

Why I’m Loving These Right Now

I think what I love most about this week’s creations is that everything’s built for variety. It’s not just about nutrition (although that’s always front and centre); it’s about keeping them curious and active. Watching them dig through layers of leaves, hearing that little rustle when they find something new – that’s what enrichment should be.

And honestly? I love seeing you lot share your photos of your pets enjoying these boxes and bundles. It makes all the drying, sorting, and packing worth it – even when my house looks like a herb explosion.

A Little Note on Rescue Support

Every purchase you make helps me keep donating to rescues and fundraising for Guinea Garden Sanctuary. It’s why I do this – to make enrichment more affordable for you, and keep rescues stocked up at the same time.
