🌱🥦 Did you know… fruits and veggies are technically forage too?

They’re plant parts — just like leaves, flowers, stems, bark and roots — which means when you’re feeding dry forage alongside fresh veg or fruit, it all counts towards the same allowance. That goes for guinea pigs, rabbits, tortoises, rats, degus, hamsters, and more!

🧠 I use guinea pigs as an example because of my background running a sanctuary that specialised in behaviour and bonding — but this applies to all species. Overfeeding can still cause issues, even with natural ingredients.

📝 So here’s a handy rule of thumb: ➡️ For animals that eat fresh veg and dry forage, the total portion together should reflect what their system can handle.

🐹 For guinea pigs and rabbits, that’s usually around 1 cup per day — combined.

So if you’re giving both veg and forage, it should be 1 cup total, not 1 cup of each!

📸 For example: this little piggy had a mix of fresh veg and our forage together — but I made sure her full portion measured to just 1 cup in total. That gives her variety and enrichment without overloading her gut.

💡 Every species and every individual is different. Some can handle more variety, others need more sensitive portions — and I always do my best to build our mixes with this in mind…

But I don’t know what fresh foods you're offering alongside, so it’s really important you consider that too when feeding.
