🌳 Storytime: Why You Can’t Find Apple Leaves Anymore

(and why my hayfever is screaming)

Let me tell you a weird one that actually makes perfect sense when you hear it…

So – have you noticed how hard it is to find proper apple trees outside of people's private gardens? You know, the ones that actually grow fruit? Well, here’s why – and it affects you, me, your pets, and my sanity…

💨 Male trees don’t drop fruit – they drop pollen
Urban planners LOVE male trees. They’re neat, tidy, and don’t cover the streets in fallen apples or berries.
The downside? They release clouds of pollen – and there aren’t enough female trees around to catch it anymore.

😤 That extra pollen has nowhere to go… so it floats
With fewer fruit-bearing (female) trees, there’s no ‘catcher’s mitt’ for the pollen – so it lingers.
That’s one big reason hayfever has been getting worse year on year, especially in towns and cities.
My nose knows. My eyes know. My lungs definitely know.

🍏 And yes – it messes with GGT too
Apple leaves are one of the most requested forage items I get asked for – and they’re brilliant for small pets.
But wild apple trees? You’ll struggle to find them in public spaces.
Why? Because they’re female.
And female = fruit = mess = councils don’t want ‘em.

🌿 So unless you’ve got access to someone’s garden… good luck
No public picking, no pruning, and no windfall leaves.
It’s frustrating – especially when I forage ethically and locally to get the real stuff for your pets.

💡 Moral of the story? We need more messy trees.
More balance. More females. Less pollen. Less sneezing.
More apple leaves. More happy pets.
Botanical sexism is real – and it’s choking out biodiversity and people with hayfever.

✌️ Next time someone moans about ‘untidy trees’, just remind them –
sometimes nature’s mess is exactly what keeps things healthy.
